Home>Iraq Opinion> Weapons of Mass Destruction 2

This is part three of the ongoing debate with Johann. I will have his response soon.

Weapons of Mass Destruction 2

To the point of the evidence being weak, you must understand that resolution 1441 was passed unanimously which means the existence of the weapons was not in dispute. The resolution stated that the regime of Iraq was already in material breach of past resolutions on WMD and if they did not provide the evidence to the contrary they would be in FURTHER breach which called for “serious consequences”. So understand, the existence of the weapons was NEVER in dispute by ANY of the members of the Security Council. If you want to be suspicious of President Bush you must also be in suspect of ALL members on the council, other world leaders, the intelligence agencies of all those countries, the press, and Iraq itself saying they themselves had weapons in the past with no proof of their destruction.

On the President being capable of lying, sure, anyone can lie. However, when looking at Saddam’s past history HE HAS LIED. There is no proof that the President ever has. When I go by what people say I go by their track record, not my hopes and dreams. There is evidence that Saddam has the weapons and I will not be one to question the President in what he has said. Also the administration is not looking for a war. Who in their right mind does? And tell me why even people not normally backing Bush in the U.S. have on this matter?

On the point obtaining the weapons from another location other than Iraq, why try for one in a place that it would be much harder to get? It is much easier for them to stroll up to Saddam and ask for some extra Sarin or Anthrax than to go to Russia and ask for a nuke. It would be barely easier for terrorists to get a weapon from the United States. Also, all plutonium on the planet can be tracked, you can tell where certain strains of viruses come from, and there is evidence to always point where the chemicals came from. So, neither Russia nor Pakistan would be as willing as Saddam to get caught red handed. Plus, Saddam has motive to sell: money and a hatred for the U.S.

Finally, when you say that we are doing nothing about the terrorists in Saudi Arabia, we are. The U.S. has been putting pressure on Saudi Arabia to turn up terrorists and they have been. They have been arresting the cells that they can find because they know that the U.S. has a leader who will do exactly as he says, and he said that those who harbor terrorism are not with us but against us and they will be taken care of. Also, most of the funding of the terrorism in Saudi Arabia is from private citizens, not the government. Saddam and his regime supported terrorism (25,000 dollars to homicide bombers and who knows what else), in his country and others. Also you tell me not to change the subject, I’d appreciate if you’d do the same. We are talking about WMD.
